The Nintendo Switch changed the way I play games

The Nintendo Switch has really altered the way I play video games nowadays.

Yep, I said it. The Nintendo Switch has really altered the way I play video games nowadays. And it isn’t just down to being a super nostalgic trip. For me, it’s the adaptability, performance and graphics that all roll into one, that make the Nintendo Switch a package that I just couldn’t resist. Let me explain…

Life Before The Nintendo Switch

PC Gaming was (and in some ways still is) my primary way of relaxing. I currently run a medoicre system with an i5 processor, and an older graphics card compared to most. This has served me well for the past 3 years, and it’s still going strong!

When I was younger, I did own a Nintendo DS. And I did own a multitude of Mario games on it but the nostalgia element wasn’t there for me at first glance.

When Nintendo announced the Switch (of course being a PC gamer), I laughed at it. With it’s ‘knock-off tablet sized’ 720p screen, a control scheme that just didn’t make sense and a tiny amount of battery life, this was a no go for me. At least not yet…

Upon release, the Switch recieved a huge uproar of negative feedback. This ranged from the dock scratching the screen, massive frame drops (in Zelda specifically), and that custom joycon skins would ruin the consoles finish forever. These are just a select few.

Little did I know, I would eventually buy it!

The Final Decision

A very good friend of mine, Connor (YT Channel — https://www.youtube.com/user/TheAlconpokemon) picked up a Switch on Pre-order. He’s a massive Nintendo fan and couldn’t wait for this to be released. One of the first points he mentioned upon picking one up, was the Portability and Ease Of Use. Two elements of my gaming setup that had never occured to me as being important or relevant.

The fact that you could simply pick up the console and go, was a plus within itself, let alone being able to store a multitude of games on it, and have local multiplayer support (something that I’ve really missed in modern PC games for years). Also, the upcoming games for the system looked incredible to own on the go! (DOOM, Wolfenstein, Rocket League etc).

For me, as soon as the puzzle pieces slotted into place in my brain, it was clear that this console just seemed like the right thing to get.

Why it changed the way I play

This console now provides me with the option of playing a game literally ANYWHERE, and not just in my room (where my PC is currently situated). Yeah, I have my MacBook but I only play one game on it, and that’s Hearthstone and as we all know, Mac’s aren’t exactly the future of gaming.

It means I can spend time with family, with friends and in bed, just chilling and playing some casual games. It’s made my setup more adaptive than ever before and that’s why I love it! (Also Super Mario Odyssey is a blast but that might be another post).

What’s your thoughts on the Switch? Do you have one? If so, then do you like it, why? If you don’t, then why also?

Please comment below and let me know your thoughts, I’ll happily respond to as many as possible!

That’s all for now! Thanks so much for reading, I really do appreciate your time!
